From Basel SBB to Basel Bad Bf. Due to construction north of Freiburg, this is the fastest way to Freiburg from Strasbourg, though the apps will suggest a bus and lots of waiting. There is so much room for improvement with routing.
I could have taken a tram but this is more interesting. It’s a strange gap in the network, I think because the Swiss don’t want to deal with DB delays. There are a few trains that go through but these are limited, and often wait on the German side for a while (my guess is to allow for DB delays).
I stopped to take pictures but later regretted it when I ran down the platform and barely caught the train.
I saw two Swiss cops on ebikes pull up to a van with plates in the window try to figure out what to do with it. Sorta funny, not sure why.
I’ll dump a bunch of other pics here from Bordeaux, Paris, Strasbourg, and wherever else I was on my way back home. Strava doesn’t seem to have a limit haha.
Check out that big stack-o-railroad ties at the SNCF railroad facility! A lot of things go on behind the scenes to make a railroad run.
As a general overview, I took lil trains through Switzerland and then across France (no big fast TGVs). Then I took the big fast TGV’s back through Paris. Now I’m finally almost home! 6 days left in my rail pass… Open to suggestions for next weekend.
